Mai Tai

I’ve been noticing this strange change in me since I have been in London. I often catch myself really wanting to hide into the crowds and blend in. I have never felt this way at home. I have always desired to be interesting to look at. To stick out a little. Not here. I noticed it heavily at the club tonight. I had to leave because the feeling was so strong, like my self-consciousness was growing by the second.

I felt that way a lot in Germany. Then again the last time I was there was when Junco jeans were cool over here, but let me tell you they were NOT popular over there. Only skin tight clothing for the Germans thank you. You’ll get the need to stick out back when you are among friends.

Trying to blend in when in a foreign place is natural, I think. And good. Because it also means you subconsciously are trying to figure out "the rules" to this new social setting (every society has subtly different "rules" or norms of behavior). Once you learn them, then you can be more independent.

Also, standing out for the sake of standing out? Don't focus on it. If you want to start blending in, do it. Don't overthink it.
